I would love to see a vote. I would even be glad to see the override vetod to pay for it. Are not city workers already working...? So the cost would be the ballots? Doesn't the city already have reams of paper available? I don't think the cost would be all that exorbinate...but then I don't really know? Just asking.

What you all have not addressed is where is the money to pay for this "vote" going to come from. It takes money to set up the polls, print ballots, pay election workers, etc., unless of course you want to wait until November and try to meld it in with the presidential election.

Darn right. We don't all have children and we're not all in favor of ever-increasing taxes. The mayor's proposal was fair. The teachers would get the raise they're protesting for, and the residents of Nashua would be satisfied that the spending cap was still in place. Anyone else that wants to pay extra, go ahead and write a check to the BoE.

A 66 page document put to the voters to decide which way to go? Puhleeeeeze!!! Alderman McCarthy refused to put a 2 sentence referendum on the ballot on whether or not to build the Broad Street Parkway. You think a 66 page document can possibly be put before the voters in a comprehensive fashion?. . Do you mind telling me how one would accomplish this?

In a way, people are trying to cast their votes here, in these comment pages. It is not for the taxpayers to vote on, unless we given the opportunity and time to review the contract and be given all the facts on how the cost will impact the city's budget...

I think the Mayor is on the right course with this one.

This is a great idea! How about any time there needs to be an override it goes to a vote by the city? I am going to look into how to make that legislation. That would pull the power back to who it belongs to, the taxpayers, and take it from the fearmongers. Teeboom generally finds a way to kill things he doesn't like, even if he lost the vote.

A city wide vote is a good idea. The Alderman will NEVER let it happen though. bottom line is a few crackpots and fear mongers are calling the shots.

There are many city residents that are willing to support education, are not losing their homes, live within their means, and really don't care if someone has a better or worse car or hosue then them, but just want a viable city to live in and make their home.

Give this idea some consideration Alderman. I think if you have the courage to do it, you might see that you realy do represent the minority and are not doing what is in the interests of the city at large.

Put this out to public vote, or do the jobs you were elected to do. Lead this city, and pass this contract.

The retroactive pay is not a bargin. That is why a second vote is need to override the spending cap. I would love to see a citywide vote. I really don't think you would want that. Have seen the way the Aldermen who we all vote for have been voting? I know it doesn't readily translate but the majority of Aldermen are not for this travisty and we all voted for them how can you assume this contract would pass a citywide vote?
