Nashua Telegraph: Lull Farm owner arrested, charged with growing pot

How about all the truely medicinal values of marijuana
that if more people new about the pain that they feel
    could be made more berrible
  • Babe · 1 year ago
His apples did give me more joy that other apples. But I was always hungry afterwards. Give him back his plants and let him be.
  • HarryHood · 1 year ago
If the town decideds to give him a hard time I hope he sells all of his land to developers.
  • What is up with that? · 1 year ago
Actually, I think they can seize the farm, if they think the pot paid for it.

As an aside, doesn't he coincidentially look like Jimmy Buffet?
  • Wheres the justice · 1 year ago
Yea and it goes to the FEDERAL MAFIA, what a joke!
  • married 0079 · 1 year ago
Yeah,16 pot plants finacially support 260 acres of fram land... What the heck are you smoking? try the stuff that isnt made in a lab with pestisides.
  • Tim Farrell · 1 year ago
16 plants is hardly "serious cultivation" unless officer Sartell is infering that Mr. Orde worked without a smile.
  • William Hung · 1 year ago
    good one!
  • Dullo · 1 year ago
I buy produce from this farm and I will continue to do so. Everyone makes mistakes. He did not hurt anyone. The article does not say he was selling drugs. I think we form opinions on people based on some impossible perfect guideline that most of us can not live up to ourselves. This is sad news for the Hollis community.
  • Substitute · 1 year ago
So, he got caught......He hasn't killed, raped or kidnapped anyone....Let him be. Remember, NO ONE IS WITHOUT SIN, not even you Hollis people.....although a lot of think you are.....HUH!!!!!!!!!!
  • Delta62Thorn · 1 year ago
Most of us (in Hollis) really are a bunch of self centered arrogant fools who believe we're perfect…aren't we? Well no. We're just as flawed, if not more so, than the rest of you citizens.

I do not know where you get your idea that we think we're without sin over here in Hollis. That was a completely inappropriate comment. You're making a judgmental opinion of an entire town based on what? Nothing. There is nothing here to warrant such a response. If, for some reason, you have a bias against Hollis please, show some decency, and keep it to yourself.

    Thank You.

I am so angry that this is considered a crime. When will this ridiculous prohibition come to an end. I will go out of my way to shop at Lull Farm to show my support.
Peo[ple of NH, stand up and support legeslation to decriminalize pot, and people of the nation stand up to legalizae pot once and for all.
Lets get the REAL criminals that cause REAL crimes and leave these poor persecuted happy friendly undangerous people alone.

Whatever happened to Live Free or Die?

We shouldn't be spending tax dollars enforcing this stuff.
  • CC · 1 year ago
And quoting our state motto again becomes the reason for illegal activity...

Do you even know where that phrase comes from? I'm sure that General John Stark was not referring to getting stoned on illegal drugs when he coined this phrase while fighting for independence, as did the French during their revolution. Dying for your country has nothing to do with being breaking the law. Maybe people should to move to The Netherlands you really need to get stoned legally.
  • Vi · 1 year ago
You need to go back to your history books and look up what was considered "illegal" or a "crime" back in the day. Let's see....how about the Declaration of Independence? Does that ring a bell?
  • CC · 1 year ago
You need to get real. You make absolutely no sense - must be a side effect of being a believer in the right to use illegal drugs. Read the current law.
  • Vi · 1 year ago
    CC:
Understand your history; our forefathers broke many laws in their day. The rising up against antiquated and unfair laws and rulings are part of our backbone. Again, I repeat the more current laws that had been on the books and are now legal; sodomy and abortion.
Does that make sense to you now?
  • Norml here · 1 year ago
I still can not understand how someone growing a plant , a simple weed can be against the law. And let's talk about the time and energy spent with a police summons for a dog license??!! In this day and age seems to be a whole lot of big government wasting a lot of time and tax payers' money on a whole lot of nothing.
  • friendgood · 1 year ago
I think the reason why they sent the SWAT Team to the residence is because the dog was considered dangerous. Eyewitnesses spotted him poopin' on the town common a week earlier, and indecently exposing himself to the public when he raised his leg to tinkle...
  • Tony · 1 year ago
OMG!!!! An unpaid dog license?!?!?!?! Growing pot?!?!?!? I hope the city of Hollis is building the gallows as we speak as there is no room in our Just and Decent Society for miscreants like this!!! A public flogging is called for as well!!!!

Glad to heat that there is absolutely no crime in Hollis...It must be the Safest Place on Earth if police have time for activities like arresting illegal dog owners and small scale pot farmers. (Roll eyes)
  • M. Hammond · 1 year ago
Sad news, David and the rest of the folks at LULL are some of the nicest folks in hollis and his farm is the BEST in the area. It's too bad that Hollis police are spending time arresting folks for thsi stuff when there are plenty of other drugs that are much more harmful - ie. coke, heroin, etc. I will continue to purchase from Lull and I hope everything works out for David and his family.
  • Delta62Thorn · 1 year ago
Oh yes. I purchase my tomato, cucumber, watermelon, and pepper plants from Lull farm every year…and that's not about to change just because David made a poor choice. However he must live with the consequences of his actions. Whether or not we agree with the laws of the nation we live under we have no choice but to abide by them…or face the consequences.

I do not intend to take a stand on whether or not marijuana should be legalized or not, I do not intend to waste my effort to address my position with the laws of this nation on such a petty matter…when people are continually content in handing over OUR civil liberties for the illusion of safety. There are, ultimately, greater matters at debate than the growing of marijuana.

    Legalize it!!!

Alcohol is a far worse drug, and more abused than any out there!!!! Added to the fact that alcohol plays a major role in alot of "disturbing the peace" and "domestic violence" related issues. Not to mention all the drunk drivers that kill people!!!

Never heard of a "stoner" running a Red Sox fan down.
  • Jim318 · 1 year ago
voice of reason??? Sounds like a different kind of voice to me.
I guess I should get my head checked too because 16 plants don't seem like a lot to me. How do we know he wasn't growing them for someone with a serious medical condition? I know, stupid question, you don't care about sick people and besides "it's illegal.".
I'm no expert but don't they have to be female plants to produce buds? Those plants don't seem fully developed enough to determine if they are male or female yet. If they're going to charge him for male plants then the whole thing is a farce and they're just out to ruin the guy.
Also, the guy on a tree street in Nashua doing the same thing probably wouldn't have had his place of business mentioned in the article either. What's up with that?.
He must not be a gun owner or they would have lined those up too and taken a picture of his guns with the plants.....for effect.
Hope he hasn't bought any vehicles or farm equipment recently or HPD will confiscate those too.
God forbid if he lives near a school or he's really screwed.
Yep, another "example" WILL BE made. Another life ruined even though nothing would ever have come of this. He's probably been doing that his whole life with no problems.
Yup, some day we'll all be safe!!! Even from pot smokers who won't licence their dog on time.
    Scary scary stuff.
  • Jeff kh · 1 year ago
ya. I'm sure those plants were all male plants and that Dave was just going to make a "locally grown" hemp necklace.

I'm still going to support m local farms but I'll keep in mind that there are atleast 5 other farms within 5 miles of Lull- Brookdales, Lavoies, Sullivan's, Kimballs, and Holden- all of which have delicious locally grown produce that don't give you the munchies
  • Vi · 1 year ago
I don't know about you, but maybe it's time all these people had their porches checked to ensure that they're in line with the law. What's with the blanket assumption that no one else could or would possibly be doing this? Have you checked their property? Do you think you have the right to?
  • kim · 1 year ago
who cares. There's many other things that are much worse for you.

Rep. Barney Frank introduced a House bill Wednesday that would end federal penalties for Americans carrying fewer than 100 grams, or about a quarter-pound, of marijuana.
  • e · 1 year ago
ok my other comment got deleted..what happend 2 freedom of speech?. Wat is the nashua telegraph (against putting straight forward Blunt comments ( no pun intended) on the page?. I WILL STAND STRONG AGAINST MY BELIEFS...SMOKE FREE OR DIE!!!. THIS IS AMERICA!!.THIS MAN DID NOT COMMIT ANY REASONABLE CRIME!!..POLICE ARE THE CORRUPT ONES..IM FROM LITCHFIELD!!..CHECK THEM THERE!!!

David Orde is an upstanding citizen of Hollis. His commitment to his business and contributions to the town far out-shadow this arrest. Lull Farm has been a pinnacle in the survival of local "small town" business.
His contributions to the town of Hollis gain more attention from me than the idea of some misguided farming.
    I support Dave Orde.
  • treestreetlady · 1 year ago
no one is saying he isn't a well respected business owner and upstanding member of the hollis society but he did do something illegal an for that he needs to pay the price. Thats all that is being said. Clearly, he can put on one hell of an act outside his home. hes probably so high all the time no one even notices, they think thats the real dave.
  • Jessie · 1 year ago
My best friend was killed by a driver of a car that was high on pot. That was proven in court.
I can't imagine what would make anyone say that this is a small amount that is o.k.
Great example for the next generation.
one plant... ok a mistake... but having pounds stolen from you, and over 15 plants on your porch and more in your home (are you forgetting there are kids in his home!). Shame on all of you for saying that this is alright.
it is sad that this happened, but if he hadn't broken the law, he wouldn't be in this position. I won't support Lull
as it is not a message that I feel is positive for the community.
Thank you Hollis Police for taking this seriously.
  • right on · 1 year ago
    I agree with you 100%
  • Who are you kidding! · 1 year ago
Maybe not the right place for this argument......but again.....driving while on pot is no different than driving while drunk....but alcohol is legal. It is not pot that causes accidents, it's the people who abuse it by getting in a car after.
  • rickh03301 · 1 year ago
I had a friend once who got killed in a car wreck by someone who was NOT high on pot or anything else.Funny how the world works,eh?
  • Elvira · 1 year ago
Jessie, I suppose you have never committed the crime of sodomy, either, right? Yeah, like I believe that one. As antiquated as it was, it was still on the books a few years ago. So all of you who are bitching up a storm over "getting what he deserves", I suggest you count up all those times you yourself broke the law and imagine what your punishment would have been.
For now, you can suck my view.
  • Chrissi · 1 year ago
I'll make sure that I do not take it up the but on my porch so a cop with dog summons doesnt see me....good one Elvira.

Also, to everyone who thinks the cops have nothing better to do than their... job... do you know how stupid he is to not just register his dog? OK, so you get your car registered at town Clerk and the ask if you want to register your dog at the same time. Dave said no he'd do it later. So later in the year you get the mail that says your dog registration is due. HE ignored it. Then you get a letter saying your late. then another, then another... AND after June !st, the clerk hands over all the papers to the PD who now go to your house to give you summons. ITs their job.
  • Elvira · 1 year ago
    Sodomy includes oral sex.
And what facts do you have backing up your claim about the registration?
You're incorrect with a few of your "facts" about what happened in that case.
  • ignorant nashua trash · 1 year ago
oook jesse, well my best friend was killed by a drunk driver.. same thing? except drinking is legal. Alcohol takes hundreds more lives a year than marijuana does plus is extremely addictive behavior making it more of a problem to our society than marijuana could ever be. Quick question, do you know David Orde? If you don't, please do not assume anything about his family life, his kids are adults now. Shame on YOU for jumping to conclusions. Lull farm does not need your support, the Ordes have plenty of support from people who know the family personally which is a decent population of Hollis. Next time you decide to take a drive through Hollis, and the police stop you because you "have a tail light out" you can personally thank them for getting the hard criminal of David Orde off the rough streets of Hollis.
  • Chuck the Puck · 1 year ago
With respect to O CC- This is your quote "Amazing. You have no clue. Manufacturing a controlled substance is a serious crime, and if they find he was distributing for sale (which he likely was) then that's a really big problem. Your comment is totally ridiculous."
Mr. OCC- The newspapers state that David Orde has over 250 acres worth of land in a very wealthy community, two successfull businesses in his farm stands and a household property in Hollis. Do you really t hink that he "likely was" "distributing for sale"?
That comment, sir, is more ridiculous.
David Orde has worked diligently to establish his reputation as an entrepeuer in the Hollis community and has done so with the utmost integrity. Where is your rampage about toilet paper on neighborbors trees during halloween? A good TP session on halloween has more effect on the community t hen someone growing a plant on his porch. Take your time in response.
  • jane · 1 year ago
it is obvious that there are too many hollis police
perhaps it is time to fire a few
imagine, our economy is in the tank, gas prices are soaring and the hollis police are hand delivering unpaid dog license bills. perhaps using the post office would have been a more cost effective way to let david know his dog's license had expired.
the police obviously had a different intent
who ever the small minded person was that thought calling in one of the nicest guy's in hollis for growing pot at his home
    must be an idiot
let's hope this doesn't ruin david ordes life because if he goes out of business it will certainly change the beautiful town of hollis forever
    shouldn't pot be legalized?
  • c'mon · 1 year ago
gas prices are going to be high for a while so deal with it, and it's not like he didn't know they where coming to give him a court summons... so i guess it would have been smarter not to grow an illegal substance in plain site. oh and I'm sure someone else will buy the farm land if he goes under. Also if you think they should get rid of police then you must be smoking way to much pot yourself because that's just stupid.
  • jj2 · 1 year ago
there are good laws and bad laws.
unfortunately the law making pot illegal is a bad law.
it is time that this law is repealed.
and you are right someone would love to develop his land.
i do not smoke pot but one thing is for sure u are an idiot
  • Heinz57 · 1 year ago
Last I knew, when you ignore your mailed warnings from the town offices to renew a dog license, then the cops come a callin'. What kind of idiot keeps illegal substances in plain sight for ALL to see. If David goes out of business it'll be over the prices I just paid today at Hollis. Maybe he was simply holding the plants for someone else, it is still illegal to be in possession. Maybe he was growing the plants for his own personal use. They found MORE than 16 plants on the property. How many plants does one person need for personal use? Maybe he is a pillar of the community, and perhaps in the future pot will be legalized, but for now it is not and he, being a pillar of the community is responsible for the image he portrays to the community, especially the kids. I personally don't want my child looking up to someone who thinks its fine to thumb his nose to the laws of society. The laws are there to protect the community. Without the laws you can quote live free or die all you want, but someone will come along and spout it back at you while they hurt you.

The guy had his original stash stolen from him by a cleaning lady. I know for a fact he even proceeded to call the co. and rage about how the cleaner they sent to his house stole his winter stash. So inteligence is a stretch for a man that would be so clueless as to admit not only to growing and manufacturing pot but having it so out in the open as to have it stolen by a cleaning lady. I'm sorry that the man is so nice but he broke the law plain and simple upstanding citizen and all he should be judged just the same as everyone else in this equal opportunity country. It's just shamefull that the people that know him think he should be above the law becouse he's a nice guy. If you heard what he said to the owner of the cleaning co. you'ld think twice about the nicest guy you ever met coment. And to the poster that said go to broad st. and say it to his face you should think about what you write. I for one will go down there and ask plainly HOW DUMB ARE YOU TO GROW ON YOUR FRONT DECK. REMEDIAL .....
  • Vi · 1 year ago
It's really funny how you're not saying anything about the cleaning lady. Why aren't you ranting about her having stolen something for her own use? I certainly hope you can back up what you just posted publicly. (try looking up the definition for Slander/Libel)
Now, why are you all assuming it was a FRONT deck?
    THINK, people.
  • Delta62Thorn · 1 year ago
It's a real shame… He's generally a well respected individual here in Hollis. Now you realize how hard of a time those who work at the farm stands are going to get? I'm thinking the "I found your corn, your cucumbers, but where's your pot plants?" joke is going to get old very very fast.

Now that you mention it…I was wondering why he looked familiar…he does look sort of like Jimmy Buffett (it's two T's on the end by the way).

I hope they don't seize the farm. One of my good friends works there and I'd hate to see her lose her job. :(

It's a wonder he didn't get caught sooner. I know right where he lives. Just around the corner from his house is the home of a state trooper…

I'm friends with most of the workers at the Lull in Hollis, and most of them are miserable b/c of how the manager treats them (not Dave, he doesnt really control the inside of the store anymore- his daughter does.) The farm isnt really as friendly as it was last year when he was more involved.
I recently started shopping at Brookdales and it is awesome! They have the same veggies + their own ORGANIC veggies and they also have really interesting gifty/folk type items at their stand, not to mention an AWESOME ICE cream stand! If you can get it t LULL, youu can get it at Brookdales for less. And I know for a fact they dont grow ilegal plants to supliment their business (whether you believe that weed should be illegal or not)

I'm sorry. Twinkies are now illegal; or at least politically incorrect, which means it's a step away from being illegal. You may only have a twinkie if it's got the RIGHT fats in it. Until then you'll have to chow on some granola instead.
  • Wake Up People · 1 year ago
    Lets see...

Low-grade marijuana sells for about $340 a pound, mid-grade for $750 a pound, and high-grade for $2,500 to $6,000 per pound. A fully mature plant can a produce a quarter-pound to three-quarters of a pound of pot, according to various estimates.

Lets do some math based on the mid-range numbers. (1/2lb per plant at $750/lb)

    16 plants
    • each yielding approx. 1/2lb of pot per year
    • 16 plants = 8lbs per year
    • 1lb = $750
    • 8lbs = $3,700

I would think these numbers are low, way low.

Is is possible that his personal use is 8 pounds per year? I doubt it. Being a farmer... do you think he is growing low-grade pot and yeilding only small amounts of pot per plant? I doubt it.

This is serious cultivation as stated in the article.

Outstanding citizen or not, this is ILLEGAL!

    Need I say it again???

    WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!

Wow ... you are one up-tight dude. Have one of these brownies and try to relax!
  • Elvira · 1 year ago
If you can do the assumed usage figures for the plants, then you can also determine the percentage of actual usable plants. If you want to get down to the nitty-gritty, then you should be asking the state of the plants, what types there were and what actually was the value. If you were serious about it, you'd half to lose more than half those plants before you even begin to do anything with them.
  • ScoobySnacks · 1 year ago
Shouldn't the hollis police be guarding their sign out front so the new light doesn't get stolen instead of driving around and delivering dog notices? hehee. I agree that this has to be the worst job for an officer, why not take this time to do more DARE programs at the high school and middle school - I'd be more concerned about the kids popping pills than someone playing around with plants
  • Vi · 1 year ago
I didn't realize we had Superman in Hollis.
What fabulous casual powers of observation.
    I'm just curious, though, about procedural policies;
I thought issuing a summons means leaving it on/in the front door or even side door of a home. I didn't realize a stroll around the property was included.
  • danstjames · 1 year ago
Shut Up!! Are you kidding me? It happens every day with boozed out drunkards that have had their license to drive pulled more than once! Why are they still driving? Why aren't they getting caught?? Pot is a weed that grows wild out west, get over yourself and get a clue. The ONLY reason marijuana is illegal is because our beneficent government hasn't yet figured out a way to make money on it!

*grin* So in agreement with you.
Did anyone hear the snippet on B106 this morning? I was just waking up and heard the tail end of a political group of people having gotten together and spent a good $8,000 on booze for the gathering alone. Unbelievable. And all these people drove home?
I'm curious as to the number of people who attended....in my sleepy state I thought I heard a couple hundred. That's a pretty scary number when you put it against the amount of the bill.
  • Hmmm... · 1 year ago
the back porch is clearly visible from the side entrance. the entrance most used to access the house. no strolling was necessary. the police would have been negligent if they had not acted according to the law. 16 plants are hard to miss.

That's why I'm responding to alot of the ill and misinformed people that are posting.
I'm curious, though, as to why you level an attack on me, yet you say nothing about the numerous people that claim to know 'all kinds of dealing and growing info' on David.
Sounds rather selective to me, yet you and the other people set for attack demand and insist upon "the letter of the law". Hope you never sit on a jury.

I guess it depends on who you are. If he was from the tree streets of Nashua they would throw the book at him. Couple of interesting points... not only is he a big business owner dealing with the public (and our youth) but either he or an immediate family member owns the school bus company....hhmmm . For anyone who doesn't know this farm, he had a sign out front for a long time that read "support your local farmer or watch houses grow" I hope the Hollis police does their job on this one!!!!
  • liveinhollis · 1 year ago
What is your point about someone in his family owning the bus company? Give me a break....they had nothing to do with this.

This is how huge rumors get started and businesses get ruined. I think it totally ridiculous and uncalled for to bring the rest of his family in to this.

Until it is proved that the rest of his family had something to do with this they shouldn't even be mentioned.

It is a known fact that animals will eat fermented berries to get a buzz, and if you type in drunk squirrel on YouTube you can see it for yourself. Sumptuary laws have no place in America when it comes to substances such as alcohol or marijuana. Humankind has used such intoxicants since the dawn of time, and will continue to use such substances regardless if they are illegal or not. There are many over the counter medications that are more harmful than marijuana, and yet it is marijuana that is illegal. Why not cigarettes? Dronabinol, which is a pill derived from marijuana and is pure THC, is a class III drug, but the plant itself is a class I drug? Come on people wake up and use the grey matter between your ears, where is the logic in this? Except for a small minority, police and politicians continue to feed us lies and fear for their own power and political gain. It is shameful, and this former Marine is embarrassed to be an American when people are not able to live their life the way they see fit, and are snared in these hypercritical laws. If he is not harming anyone, then live and let live, and leave him be.

By the way, with him growing his own marijuana, he is helping in the fight against terrorism and should be applauded! Home grown marijuana is obviously not imported, and because of that there is no chance of any money going to unsavory characters to buy such things as weapons to be used against our own troops.

I'm totallydisgusted with this country. I asked an officer to help me with a perso who belongs in jail. The officer said he would contact him and call me back in an hour. Did he? NO! Our country is losing the war on drugs. Heroin and cocaine has infiltrated our high schools. How hard do they work to stop this? I have spoken tolaw enforcement and those who are smart enough agree it should be legalised with the sale controlled by government. This woul enable them to help keep it out of our youths hands and give the government the so needed funds to fight the real war. Major cultivation? Mr Sartelle I feel very sorry for you that your sense of reallity is so distorted.. Will you be running for president next term? I'm a concerned 49 year ol parent of a very good teenage child. You should be ashamed of yourself for your perception of what is important. I will pray that the Lord will restore some sanity to our countr.

I am sure all you people that think it should be legal to have pot have gone to legislative hearings to testify it should be legal. I am sure you have made your voice heard, and have taken the time to go before the legislaters and voice your opinions.

Oh, and the ones who feel the police should do nothing, I am sure you would like all the police to just go away and then there would be no police protection. Oh ya, thats right, you want them for your protection, but to enforce the laws if it concerns you. Just imagine what would happen if the police where not there any more. You would all scream if someone broke into your house, or committed a crime against you and the police where not there.

The majority of posters here feel there should be no police and that everybody should be able to grow pot. So get off your high horses, and go to Concord and change the laws. Oh ya, thats right, you dont have the time, and most people will just sit back and complain but wont do anything.

For Mark, if you are so totally disgusted with this country, leave it. I am sure you will be more happy in Iraq, China, Germany, or some other country.

1st paragraph-the politicians mind are already made up what laws will change and which won't.Doesn't matter what the people want. They've been smoking pot in holland for decades and holland has one if not THE lowest crime rate in europe. They sell pot in cafe parlors all over the place. And it's all LEGAL.
Paragraph 2:Now you're just acting like a fool.No one expects the police to just disapear,at least not seriously. And ig they did,in the context of your paragraph, people would arm themselfs and take care of business themselfs.
    3rd paragraph-Same as 1&2 just worded differant.
paragraph 4:Germany is a great country.I was born there and have family that live there. That country has they collective SH.. together.Plus it's right next door to Holland.

    Unbelievable 2-
Just for your information the Hollis cops have nothing better to do than go house to house for dog summons. It has happened to people I know more than 3 times in one week.

I think anyone who lives in Hollis should know that the cops are sneaky, bored, and will do anything to get a little action out of their day. My question is why were they in the back of David's house if clearly they knew he was at Lull working just like he does EVERY SINGLE DAY of the year? David Orde is not a criminal what he does in the privacy of his own home is his personal business just like everyone else. And there is no way he was going to deal. I believe all the plants were for personal use only which is why this town needs to stop looking at him like a criminal, he is not harming anyone, not even himself. What most of you people don't know is that probably around 60% of the town of Hollis residents smoke pot, so get over it.

All I really need to say is that David Orde is truely one of the nicest guys I have ever met. Any Lull Farm customers should know this too. Many people have built strong bonds with David, and just because he has been arrested shouldn't change their views on him, and if it has then this is a sad, sad community we live in.

R u kidding me? anyone who grows that much pot has an intent to sell. If he planned to smoke 18 pot plants worth of marijuana then he has a real problem and shouldn't be driving cars, trucks or tractors. He shouldn't be handling money or a business. Wake up people. Clearly, Hollis to Nashua are two different worlds. No one doubts hes a great guy. No one doubts that Lull farms is awesome. And what you do in your personal life is your business but if you break the law in your personal or business life u pay the price. And you can all say that he intended to smoke that himself but what would u say if u learned your child bought pot from him. I bet then it would be a different story. He is a great guy with an awesome farm stand where i will continue to purchase my items from but its illegal to grow pot and its dangerous to smoke like any other drug. And he needs to pay the price for his illegal actions. Thats just a fact of life.

Tell me TreeStreetLady, that you've never committed sodomy? Did you commit it prior to the years 2002 or 2003? Did you know that it was still on the books as illegal? Are you willing to pay for all the times you committed a CRIME?

    I was just saying....
I didnt get the preferred treatment (for the felony)
    that he did....
    I got $4k cash bail
    He was released on $2k
My $$ amount was a lot less than his (16 pot plants)
    Mine was under $3k
But of course I didnt have a snazzy lawyer to defend me either and prob get the bail reduced.
There is no question he will get preferred treatment
    Do you disagree?
  • rickh03301 · 1 year ago
It's not what you did,it's the lawyer representing you.And in most cases the judge sitting in the court that day.Don't blame this guy because his bail is lower.
  • Jimmy · 1 year ago
You get bail set by the bail commissioner.
It has nothing to do with a lawyer at that point.
It can be argued the next day if there is an arraignment.
But I WILL blame him, because he got strings pulled.
    Lets be realistic here.
He will get a slap on the wrist and I will have the book throw at me....bottom-line
  • unbelievable2 · 1 year ago
Oh contrare my remedial friend. Yes the bail com. stes the amount but name and lawyer do amazing things. Don't sit there and think other wise. You should arguing other points than that. Being the "big figure" Mr. Orde is in hollis that bail com. was probably a friend of his. I only say that do to the facts. Look up the punishments of all those caught cultivating pot in this state and see how many were released at all never mind for two thou. It's a joke how are judicial system works. This chump will get a slap on the wrist becouse he's such a good guy. Give me a break he's a felon plain and simple. I wonder how people outside the town feel about Hollis. First, it is not the first time someone has been caught growing weed in Hollis, 2nd -3 high school students OD on drugs within a week of each other, third- 2 high school students get arrested for selling the drugs that the previous three ODed on. Now David Orde, owner of a local farm gets caught for growing Marjuana because he didnt register his dog. Two years I found pot growing in the pumpkin patch when I picked my own for Halloween. Hollis should be embarrased by this. I know I am..

SO did the officer get a warrant to seize these plants? cause from the article it sounds like this cop HELPED HIMSELF."and found drug paraphernalia, literature on growing marijuana and marijuana inside." Why was this officer inside his home!

after they found the pot on the porch they issued a search warrent for the rest of the house. the pot on the pot was in plain sight so it can be used in court legally. pull your head out of the sand and read the full article and police report to get the whole story before you comment.
  • Vi · 1 year ago
I cannot believe that you think that everything you read in the paper is 100% factual.
Investigative reporting is just that; a well-rounded look into the issue at hand, not just a
blind "first glance". You need to review what constitutes "plain sight". If I had anyone
approaching my house, I would expect them to act in a reasonable manner; in other
words, they'd park in the street outside my house, walk up the driveway, approach the
front door, etc. I do not expect a reasonable person, (and in this regard, the duty is
higher than reasonable), to ignore the driveway, bolt up my tiered lawn, walk around on
my garden path to either side yard or to the back of the house.

It almost certainly seems he grew the plants for his own use. We don't know the reasons why he was using them, medicinal or recreational, but it doesn't matter. What matters is there was NO VICTIM in this "crime". It would be a different matter if he were giving or selling it to minors or driving under the influence. A few posts back a highly judgmental extremist was calling for him to be stoned in Hollis center. I'd been in favor of a harsh punishment if he were giving marijuana to minors against the wishes of parents. In that case you do have a VICTIM, the minor. For there to be a crime there has to be a victim. Marijuana use is certainly a sign of personal weakness and isn't good behavior. Whether marijuana a gateway to harder drugs or not isn't reason enough to criminalize it in ALL cases. American culture and the law have sunk to the paranoid level of pre-crime, criminalizing people for crimes we think might happen based on behavior we consider suspicious. Anyone seen the movie "Minority Report"? We had better think about this very seriously because all the self righteous people condemning this man for a victimless crime have teens and other people in their families with similar problems and it's just a matter of time before their lives are turned upside down by punishments that don't fit the "crime". We should fill our jails with violent people, pedophiles, sexual predators, white/blue collar thieves, drunken mayors who do hit and run, wife beaters and leave people with bad social habits to family, counselors and the community.

    "Hey TreeLady...

This is your own speculation and has no business in this forum. How are you so sure he planned to DISTRIBUTE when this article never even uses that word. " Manufacture" and "distribute" are two entirely different words. I "manufactured" some pancakes this morning but never got the chance to "distribute" them to anyone but myself. Do you get it Jimmy? Maybe I should simplify further. It will all be lower case though so you're going to have to relax a bit.

If he wants to smoke pot then so be it but its not ok to grow and sell it. And that is the job of all police, to protect the citizens in the town inwhich they serve. I do not live in Hollis but have family members that do but on behalf of all people in all surrounding towns THANK YOU TO THE HOLLIS POLICE DEPARTMENT for stopping the spread of yet another drug.

Our police should have better things to do? Last time I checked we live in NH and there aren't too many murders you see on CSI happening. I would hope that the police are doing the job we are paying them for and, to persue people for breaking the law. I'm sure David Orde knew he was breaking the law when he planted the first seed, watered the plant, cared for the plant and decided to stick it on his porch. Bottom line he knew he was commiting a crime and he got caught. Let's not try and give excuses to someone who broke the law. Lets grow up and take responsibilty for our own actions.

People that think smoking pot is a bad thing just because its illegal is comical. All the people who've never smoked that are judging it are rofl.

Study the history if the laws and see that it was just used to repress certain minorities and drive Mexican immigrants from the country. It's a shame that we don't have much hope of seeing it legal in our lifetimes.

I don't smoke at all but think its illegality is absurd. Alcohol is a much more dangerous drug if we're going to get into reality.
  • Biggy J · 1 year ago
To everyone who has posted about this article and doesn't live in Hollis or know Dave Orde are unjustified in their accusations. To say this man is a monster and he should be stoned is the biggest load i've heard in a long time. To all those posting their complaints about unfair treatment because they are from Pine Street, listen up. Have you ever asked yourself why your street is profiled? This may be due to the fact that there is a huge amount of crime going on in that area, and most of the people who live there are habitual offenders. To the people who believe that Weed is bad, ask yourself this, if a man of great stature as Dave Orde can smoke weed and continue to be a productive member of the community and hold down a successful business such as Lull farm, how bad can it be. Also think about this, if Alcohol is legal and people die from drunk driving accidents, then you cannot use that as an argument against weed, obviously it is how the law is enforced not how it is written that matters. Another fun fact for all you pompous a holes who want to stand on your pedestal and talk trash about a man you have never met, why don't you drive down to Lull Farm on Broad st. and say it to his face? I guarantee you won't be able to do this because Dave Orde is one of the best people you will ever meet. I not only feel bad for his family, but I feel even worse that they have to read all these comments from scum like you.

Here, here! I posted earlier making fun of ALL the posts - how ridiculous they were, on both sides - finally, a post that speaks the absolute truth! Dave Orde is a really fantastic person, and anyone who thinks differently should get their head examined. I don't smoke pot, personally - but believe in its legalization because, just like booze, moderation is the key.

My heart goes out to those people who have had loved ones lost by scumbags who abused weed and ended up taking a life because of it. But those same dirt bags would drink & drive as well. Not because of the substance, but because of their inability to think in terms of consequences.

David orde is a good man! I do not see what the big deal of smoking or growing pot is. It opens the doors to creativity, happiness and health. We are living a closed minded society. I would rather see someone growing their own tobacco go to jail than for pot. Pot is legal to help the ill. Why not make it legal to help the living and well. David has helped many young and old, far and near. Let him be! Drop the charges! I’m sure all of you have smoked a joint or two in your life, and enjoyed it. The man is growing his own personal organic stash, Good for him! Deaths in the United States in a typical year are as follows:
    • Tobacco kills about 400,000
    • Alcohol kills about 80,000
    • Workplace accidents kill 60,000
    • Automobiles kill 40,000
    • Cocaine kills about 2,500
    • Heroin kills about 2,000
    • Aspirin kills about 2,000
    • Marijuana kills 0
There has never been a recorded death due to marijuana at any time in US history.
All illegal drugs combined kill under 20,000 per year, or a small percent of the number killed by alcohol and tobacco.
Tobacco kills more people each year than all of the people killed by all of the illegal drugs in the last one hundred years
Come on let’s get real. Make pot legal!

  • momof2 · 1 year ago
Learn to read, they searched inside his home and found more illegal drug paraphinila and such.
  • nashuaresident · 1 year ago
I read it. You should learn to read with comprehension and not jump to conclusion. Did you not read that he was not home when the officer (singular meaning no witness) found the pots and he was arrested before he even set foot back to his house. Yes he could be guilty all the way. I just say don't jump to conclusion too quickly. It's not that nobody ever got framed in this country. Wait until he gets his day in court or confesses voluntarily.

Some of the comments you people have left amaze me. Its the ignorance of people like "CC" who give marijuana a bad name. You all know the media blows everything out of proportion, but no where near as badly as you people are. You all talk like you know him, and if you did know him, you would know that he is not any kind of threat to the community. These remarks of "serious cultivation" and claiming Dave as a dealer are ridiculous. He is a hardworking man and has done a lot for the town of Hollis.
  • mscol · 1 year ago
The question is how much weed he had when they served a warrant later in the day. If he had pounds then he's a dealer.

  • youmustbeoncrack · 1 year ago
I don't see what he did wrong here? Why did the cops happen to go to his house and not his business where he is 95 percent of the time? Sounds a little fishy to me. I guess the Hollis powers that be would rather have a bunch of condos on that land. Watch houses grow, watch houses grow.

NEWSFLASH FOLKS!!!! i am in my 40's, married with children, professional career, beautiful home and lots of friends.....and guess what......I smoke pot as does about 30 of my friends who live....guess where, yup HOLLIS. So everyone get your head out of the sand...We do not abuse it,
  • oh please · 1 year ago
News flash i live in hollis and smoke, your an idiot. We don;t care about who smokes, what we do care about is who grows a large amount of it and leaves in on the porch in plain site, because that's illegal.
  • Vi · 1 year ago
Let's define "plain sight". Remember the OJ case? And how amazingly, in the twilight, with his naked well-trained eye, Det. Furman, who was technically "off duty", miraculously "spotted" blood on the Bronco.
(remember, we're talking a needle point sized drop) *yowsa* Amazing powers of casual observation.
That case stunk to high heaven just like this one does.

If you believe David Orde is a drug dealer, YOU are on crack.

The guy is a horticulturalist. Not to mention, a flipping FARMER. He farms 250 acres of beautiful NH land. He feeds people and employs many others. He keeps the land beautiful and agricultural.

I assure you, his 16 plants were not a career move. So don' t even compare him to the "tree street" grower that sells weed for a living.

And to the class A felony guy. Cry me a river pal. What have you ever done? When you clear up your court cases, I bet David Orde would be a good enough person to give you a job.

We love to tear down those with more success than ourselves.

Thank God for the constabulary's policy of rushing a warrant to a citizen's door when the negligent member of society has threatened the very foundations upon which this great Republic was built by.......yes, you guessed it,.........being tardy on their doggie license fees. Were it not for this completely reasonable expenditure of police time and effort, we never would have found the little funny stuff trees which clearly would have fed the drug cumpulsion in this hemisphere for decades to come. This is serious stuff, folks. This drug raid has ended a clear and present danger to our great nation. Columbian drug king pins are no doubt trembling in utter fear; wondering how long before their own once powerful empires are overthrown by the Herculian HPD, heretofore to be known as the UNTOUCHABLES. I feel safer tonight thanks to the perfect perspective and prioritizing of the Hollis crime fighters. I just wonder how long before Tom Clancy writes the book inspired by this heroic cadre of culprit busters.

if i was a customer at lull farm (which i am not) i would continue to shop there. it is not a big deal. and to compare this guy to peoplw from the tree streets is just retarded. the people on the tree streets have a reputation for being trouble makers because THEY ARE TROUBLE MAKERS! at least some of them are. i grew up on the tree streets. there are alot of good people over there. there are also a lot of low-lifes there too. 16 plants are not alot of plants. these were not very big plants either. leave the guy alone. he is a good person from what i have heard about him.
  • Unbelievable · 1 year ago
It amazes me that this old wrinkle bag gets released on 2000 cash bail. If it wasn't the owner of a known farm and some kid or adult for that fact lets say living on palm street or central street in nashua for some reason I don't see them being released on 2000 cash bail actually I don't see them being released at all. Lets see what happens to good ole Mr. Orde. I'm guessing he knows someone with a little swing and gets a little slap on the wrist. What a great country where who you know can place you above the law. But god forbid your poor becouse the less money and the less connections you have the less rights and less chance you have for fair punishment.
  • Vi · 1 year ago
What's with your personal attack? Why not direct your obvious anger right back at the area that your squaking about? There are nasty roaming bands of tweenagers that need to be dealt with, illegals that continually commit crimes, get caught, deported & then come right back again, & crimes that no one is dealing with because people are afraid to speak up. You take care of that first before you start pointing fingers. You know nothing about the situation and haven't even considered the fact that the story is slanted and doesn't contain all the facts.
  • what's the truth · 1 year ago
That's it......Hollis man gets caught....so why not blame "illegals" for that too. Taking care of "that" now includes this man whether you want to face that or not. Of course the "facts" of every case gets twisted to some extent.....yes even the ones involving "tweenagers" (whatever that is). However slanted the story may be does not negate the fact that plants were sitting on the guys front porch. I don't agree with personal pot use being illegal, but it is.

Huh 16 plants I thought meant 16 counts. I guess if your rich and a comunity man it doesn't. Must know some cops I guess. What do they say its good to be king. If its a small pond and your a big fish in it the law must not count towards you. Good thing he isn't poor and from the projects or they would be stringing him up. Lets see what happens to this guy I think next to nothig. All I have to say is if they catch someone of a lower class than this chump they better not harshen the sentence for said poor person. But thats the way the country works its all about who you know and how much cash you have. Absolutely sad.
  • Sarah · 1 year ago
The difference between this guy and someone from the projects is that he has done good things for the community including creating jobs. Name one good thing someone growing pot in the projects has done for the community. Also, with a big business like Lull Farm he's not a flight risk so the bail can be low. If you live your life like a dirtbag and suck off the system then the system is right to be harsh on you if you take advantage of it. If you pay taxes to support those who won't support themselves then so what if you get treated with a little leniency. When all is said and done a wealthy taxpaying business ower and a person from the projects caught for the same offense and given different sentences will both have contributed the same amount to the community.

I don't see you expecting everyone to pay the same dollar amount in taxes, create the same amount of jobs for others, and contribute voluntarily to the community. Until you do that maybe you should be careful about crying about how unbelievable a situation like this is.

If you expect everyone to be treated the same then they should be held accountable to be the same is every aspect.
  • momof2 · 1 year ago
Do you really feel this way ?! So he has done good things for the communtiy (but grows and possibly sells pot on the side) and he should get off easier than someone from the projects...LOL. Help me understand, PLEASE.
  • Sarah · 1 year ago
I'm a mom of 1 and I do feel that way. And I rent on French Hill so I'd be in a world of trouble if I did the same thing he did.

Even if this guy is selling a little to his friends, he's not going to be down at the school selling to our babies.

Don't get me wrong, he should be punished but I think that the courts should take into account a person's life when they pass judgement. If you've done nothing good and spend your life taking advantage of the system maybe you don't deserve to be let off easy. If you worked hard for 40 years and your taxes have paid for others to get help when they needed it, maybe your punishment isn't quite so tough. That's the whole reason there are recommended sentencing ranges.

If it turns out he was trying to sell drugs to your kids or mine... I'll stand with you and change my tune really quickly.
  • Who are you kidding! · 1 year ago
Doesn't the fact that he has access to a lot of money and other resources MAKE him more of a flight risk??? I mean he has a business....so what, it does not guarantee he won't "fly".
  • what's the truth · 1 year ago
I am sorry Robert from Derry...I know you are trying really hard to sound intellectual, but your post totally missed my point and frankly does not make much sense. Can you prove that you can't prove a negative? See, like most things in life "proof" is greatly about opinion....and I don't agree with yours.
  • Who are you kidding! · 1 year ago
Sara, you are an idiot! What he did was make himself money which is NO different than anyone else who sells drugs. You cannot prove his business was not funded by illegal drug dealing and HE not the community made money off of it...so, therefore your comments and theory on this matter are totally ridiculous and unfounded. If we justify giving people jobs by way of illegal activity then NO drug dealer or other person engaging in illegal behavior should be punished. In addition, I did not see where it was the "projects" that were mentioned, there are plenty of people who actually pay rent and support themselves on the streets mentioned.

Perhaps YOU personally are the "community" that his drug growing/dealing helped???? I personally am in favor of legalizing marijuana, and maybe this guy is not bad, but your little rant makes no sense at all.
  • Lugh · 1 year ago
Actually, you’re the idiot since you can not prove a negative.

That is why the accused don’t have to prove their innocence, but rather the prosecutor needs to prove his guilt.

Well lets just see if they find they other 300 plants. 250 acres so search... He hasn't killed anyone, but he still broke the law, because it's pot and not coke it's ok? It he had a small lab, it would be cool because he didn't kill or rape anyone? Funny... I love the line people have, if his house was in Nashua on Pine street, he would be defo doing time.... HPD pick some corn while you are out there look for more plants....

wow lets stand behind the "live free or die" slogan again. but while we are talking about live free or die, since thats what this state is all about! i;m going to head down to the local graocery store and steal some stuff for myself because its my right to do so. well i'm at it i should crack open a beer and smoke some pot while driving home becuase it;s my freedom to do so! and then i will make sure to hit a few cars on the way home of course and keep drivng because who cares! oh and i will neglect all the road safety signs too because those are just recommendations! signs can;t tell me what to do because its my freedom to neglect it! and if anyone tries and stops me i will just kill myself because thats what the slogan says!
Do you see how stupid that sounds when you use that slogan to justify every wrong action!!!!!!!! it's a privilage not a right and if you can't understand that, move to canada or some other place far far far away.

so lets say you are diving home with you daughter, or son, in the front seat and out of no where you get side swipped by another car. You daughter, or sons doesn;t make it and come to find out that the driver was high on pot. so since its leave free or die do you shrug your shoulders and say oh well it was his freedom to smoke and drive his car in to me and kill my child. oh well! whta are you going to do? stupid huh? it's the law thet guy should have known better. good job hollis cops!

Yeah - so enforce a law: don't drive OR stoned. But to say I can't have a puff here and there in the privacy of my own home is stupid. As a matter of fact, YOU are stupid. A stupid fart face with bad breath and no friends!
